Role Overview
The Sales Manager will be responsible for driving profitable sales growth across the South of England, managing key customer relationships, developing new business opportunities, and leading a small regional sales team (where applicable). This is a field-based role requiring strong commercial acumen and deep knowledge of the timber supply chain.
Key Responsibilities

Manage and grow sales across the Southern region, delivering against volume, margin, and revenue targets

Develop and maintain strong relationships with key accounts, including timber merchants, builders’ merchants, and large end users

Identify and convert new business opportunities within the region

Lead, coach, and motivate regional sales representatives (if applicable)

Negotiate pricing, contracts, and supply agreements in line with company strategy
-
Work closely with production, logistics, and commercial teams to ensure customer service excellence

Monitor market trends, competitor activity, and pricing dynamics
-
Provide accurate sales forecasting and reporting to senior management

Represent the business professionally at customer meetings, trade events, and industry functions
Candidate Profile
Essential:

Proven sales management or senior sales experience within the timber, building materials, or construction supply sector

Strong understanding of the UK timber market and merchant landscape

Track record of delivering profitable growth
-
Excellent negotiation and relationship-building skills

Commercially astute with strong analytical capability

Full UK driving licence
Desirable:

Experience working for a sawmill, timber importer, or large-scale manufacturer

People management experience
-
Knowledge of sustainability standards and timber certification (FSC/PEFC)
