    Role Overview

    The Sales Manager will be responsible for driving profitable sales growth across the South of England, managing key customer relationships, developing new business opportunities, and leading a small regional sales team (where applicable). This is a field-based role requiring strong commercial acumen and deep knowledge of the timber supply chain.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Manage and grow sales across the Southern region, delivering against volume, margin, and revenue targets

    • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key accounts, including timber merchants, builders’ merchants, and large end users

    • Identify and convert new business opportunities within the region

    • Lead, coach, and motivate regional sales representatives (if applicable)

    • Negotiate pricing, contracts, and supply agreements in line with company strategy

    • Work closely with production, logistics, and commercial teams to ensure customer service excellence

    • Monitor market trends, competitor activity, and pricing dynamics

    • Provide accurate sales forecasting and reporting to senior management

    • Represent the business professionally at customer meetings, trade events, and industry functions

    Candidate Profile

    Essential:

    • Proven sales management or senior sales experience within the timber, building materials, or construction supply sector

    • Strong understanding of the UK timber market and merchant landscape

    • Track record of delivering profitable growth

    • Excellent negotiation and relationship-building skills

    • Commercially astute with strong analytical capability

    • Full UK driving licence

    Desirable:

    • Experience working for a sawmill, timber importer, or large-scale manufacturer

    • People management experience

    • Knowledge of sustainability standards and timber certification (FSC/PEFC)
